In compliance with City Council Resolution 18834, the 2009 annual review of city-owned vehicles determined that the City of Palm needed to replace a 1990 GMC gasoline powered dump truck. It was further determined that the replacement vehicle would be an alternative-fueled (CNG) vehicle. Grant funding in the amount of $25,000 was sought from the MSRC Local Government Match Program. After funding approval, the Public Works Department proceeded with the acquisition of a CNG powered Kenworth T-800 10 yard dump truck. The truck has been in service since January 7, 2010 and continues to operate efficiently.

The objective of the project funded under ML09010 was to purchase and operate a CNG dump truck in the City of Palm Springs in order to reduce emissions and further the goals of the City and the MSRC to provide a healthier environment for residents and visitors to Palm Springs.
The City staff was encouraged by the successful operation of the CNG dump truck and the City applied for and was approved for the acquisition of three additional heavy-duty CNG vehicles in the Local Government Match 2015 program.
The project was successfully completed. The dump truck sports the MSRC decal and operated around town on public works projects.
