Project Background

Expanded the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) shuttle bus service by the purchase of 10 Phantom 35-foot 40 passenger buses with Cummins L10-240G natural gas engines to replace diesel fuel vehicles on the LAX shuttle routes.

Project Implementation

The buses operate on a 24-hour day loop connecting all terminals on the lower level of the central terminal. They provide 24-hour service between the central terminal and remote parking lots B, C, and D. The shuttles operate between the Imperial Terminal on West Imperial Highway and the central terminal between 7 a.m. and 1 a.m. daily.

Project Results Description

It is estimated these buses will achieve a 60% reduction in nitrous oxide emissions; 54% reduction in non-methane volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions; 97% reduction in carbon monoxide emissions; and 60% reduction in particulate matter emissions.

The buses are maintained by Hudson Aviation. Printouts of their records of vehicle mileage, fuel, and maintenance costs are included.
