Use of Electric Buses in the Santa Monica Tide Shuttle Service

Contract Number
96014
MSRC Award
$188,000.00
Project Background

Purchased three zero emission battery-electric shuttle buses and built a charging station. Prior to the purchase of these vehicles, the Tide Shuttle was operating primarily in the summer months. The 3 electric buses extend the service to a year-round operation, operating between Main Street area, Third Street Promenade, the Pier, beaches and major downtown hotels. The project demonstrated the viability of battery-electric shuttle buses. Automobile (including taxi service) trips in the major tourist areas of Santa Monica were reduced.
