On September 18, MSRC Member and San Bernardino County Supervisor Curt Hagman threw out the dual first pitch at Dodger Stadium to help kick-off MSRC/Metro night celebrating more than a decade of the Dodger Stadium Express. Thanks to a long-standing partnership with Metro and the Los Angeles Dodgers, the MSRC’s co-funding for this project helps provide clean-fueled bus service for fans to get out of their cars and onto public transit to travel to and from home games.
More than two-and-a-half million people have taken the service since it began in 2010. This has reduced vehicle miles traveled by approximately 24 million miles, helping to cut down on air pollution, saving fans money on gas and parking, and easing congestion around the stadium. Additionally, the service is designed to encourage people to use public transit to get to the games by closing the gap between existing public transportation routes and the stadium.
Supervisor Hagman joined Los Angeles County Supervisor and Metro Board First Vice Chair Janice Hahn on the mound in synchronized first pitches to get the evening underway (see photo of them riding the Express together). Other festivities to celebrate MSRC/Metro night included photo-ops for attendees in front of the Dodger Stadium Express buses, and free commemorative Metro TAP cards and T-shirts for some of the fans.
The playoff outlook for the Dodgers looks promising, clinching the National League West title, and the Dodger Stadium Express will be right there helping fans to go green as they cheer on their Boys in Blue into the post-season.
