The City of Temecula added eight Level 2 dual EV chargers to three community lots around the City. The MSRC provided more than $111,000 in Clean Transportation Funding for this project through its Local Government Partnership Program designed to help local jurisdictions “jumpstart” their clean air projects.
Four of the chargers are located at the Temecula Parkway Park & Ride, while two are available at the Sixth Street Parking Lot and two are at the Civic Center Parking Garage (see photo). Since the chargers opened in January 2023, there have been nearly 32,000 charging sessions logged.
Public reaction to the chargers has been positive. According to the City, residents, local commuters, and visitors to the Temecula Valley have offered their appreciation to the City for the much needed infrastructure. In fact, one driver commented that the new chargers are almost always available and since they are close to local businesses, it gives them an opportunity to dine or have coffee while they wait – they say it’s their “go to spot.”
The City applied to the MSRC for funding because providing infrastructure to support EVs advances its goal of providing a healthier environment for its residents. “The City is committed to a clean environment and sustainable practices,” remarked Avlin Odviar, Temecula’s Principal Civil Engineer. He noted that this project provides increased access to facilities which help promote clean air and the use of zero-emission transportation. “As more and more drivers elect to take advantage of the availability of these chargers, there is the potential to reduce harmful air emissions which impact the cleanliness of the air we breathe.”
