Forum Mobility Opens New Electric Truck Depot – The First Project Through the MSRC’s and Ports’ Partnership

On January 22, Forum Mobility hosted a ribbon-cutting for its new “FM Harbor” facility at the Port of Long Beach, touted as the largest port-based truck charging depot in the nation. Designed to serve more than 200 electric drayage trucks each day, the nearly two-acre facility is strategically located alongside a freight rail line and an on-ramp to the Long Beach International Gateway Bridge.

This project was made possible thanks, in part, to the unique partnership between the MSRC and the San Pedro Bay Ports. Forum Mobility initially proposed this project in 2022 in response to the MSRC’s Request for Information (RFI) to identify potential projects for zero-emission infrastructure in the goods movement sector. The MSRC is administering this project on behalf of the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, with $3 million coming from each Port’s respective Clean Truck Fund. It is the first to be completed by virtue of this partnership, with several more heavy-duty charging infrastructure projects in the works.

The event featured Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson, California Air Resources Board Chair Liane Randolph, Long Beach Harbor Commission President Bonnie Lowenthal, and other guest speakers.  MSRC staff also was on-hand to celebrate the grand opening.

The depot offers 19 dual-port 360 kW chargers and six single-dispenser 360 kW chargers, which can deliver a full charge to an electric Class-8 truck in about 90 minutes, depending on its battery size. It has the capacity to charge 44 electric trucks simultaneously.

According to Port of Long Beach CEO Mario Cordero, there currently are 457 zero-emission trucks operating at the Ports, part of an overall fleet of approximately 2,000 trucks. This project will help support the transition to zero-emission trucks and keep the Ports on their path to achieve 100 percent zero-emission drayage operations by 2035.
