Arcadia Unified School District Opens a New Compressed Natural Gas Station for CNG School Bus Fleet

Arcadia CNG School BusOn January 22, the Arcadia Unified School District celebrated the grand opening of its new compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station, funded in part by $175,000 in Clean Transportation Funding from the MSRC. The station will fuel the district's 10 CNG school buses, of its total fleet of 20 buses. The station's large capacity enables the buses to be completely filled up overnight so that they can be driven not just on their regular routes, but also on longer trips and to places where it was initially thought only diesel buses could go. Using CNG to fuel its buses furthers the school district's mission to be greener and more environmentally friendly. It is estimated that the district will save up to $40,000 in fuel and maintenance costs and will eliminate approximately 400 tons of greenhouse gas emissions each year thanks to the new station. A representative of the MSRC was proud to be on-hand for the opening to share this clean air accomplishment with members of the School Board and district transportation staff. The MSRC looks forward to working with Arcadia USD to expand the station's capacity in the near future.
