In recent years there has been a trend toward incorporating active transportation into people’s lifestyles – whether it’s getting more people to ride their bikes to get around town or to walk to work – active transportation is more popular than ever. And the MSRC is following this trend by offering funding in its Work Programs for several active transportation programs.

This summer, the MSRC was honored to support the 2015 Special Olympics World Games by providing Clean Transportation Funding to operate compressed natural gas (CNG) buses so that many of the athletes and delegates could ride on clean fuel buses that got them to and from their events without polluting Southern California’s air.
Ever since the MSRC was created by the California Legislature in 1990, it’s always been the “little agency that could,” with a small staff and committed members working to grow the reach and the influence of the agency. Today, 25 years later, the MSRC has invested more than $350 million in Clean Transportation Funding to implement hundreds of clean air projects benefitting the millions of residents who live and work throughout the South Coast region.
