This summer, the MSRC held Work Program workshops in six South Coast cities throughout the four-county region to solicit clean transportation funding ideas from clean transportation stakeholders. From June 18 through July 2, workshops were held at the Orange County Transportation Authority’s headquarters in Orange, the city council chambers in Cathedral City, the offices of the Riverside County Transportation Commission in Riverside, the San Bernardino Associated Governments office in San Bernardino, the headquarters of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority in downtown Los Angeles, and the Marvin Braude Constituent Service Center in Van Nuys. Concurrently with the workshop tour
MSRC member and former Chair Greg Winterbottom helped cut the ribbon at a recent celebration to kick-off the new La Habra Express Bus service made possible in part thanks to Clean Transportation Funding from the MSRC which helped pay for the new 23-seat CNG-fueled buses. La Habra Council Member and MSRC Alternate Tim Shaw also was on-hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony.
As the summer winds down, the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) can proudly look back on the tremendous success of its summertime OC Fair Express transit service. There were 76,952 boardings during this year’s five-week season of the Orange County Fair, compared to 58,706 last year - a tremendous 31 percent increase. The growing popularity of the service, which according to the OCTA would not be possible without the support of the MSRC’s Clean Transportation Funding, is a true testament to the multiple benefits that savvy mass transit initiatives can provide the public.
