The City of Ontario operates publicly accessible compressed natural gas refueling station at their Public Works Agency that serves as the primary refueling site for their fleet of municipal vehicles. As a result of the continuing expansion of the City's CNG vehicle fleet, as well as other fleets that have expressed interest in using this facility, the City embarked on a program to upgrade the capacity, technology, and accessiblity of their existing refueling station.

The City performed the following CNG refueling station upgrades: 1. Increased the number of onsite slow-fill dispensers from thirty (30) to fifty (50); 2. Replaced an existing double hose fast fill dispenser at the public access island with a universal credit card reader dispenser; 3. Installed a lighted island canopy at the public access site to improve security; 4. Installed directional signage in proximity to the station to assist public access site users.
The objective of this project was to upgrade and expand the City of Ontario's existing compressed natrual as refueling station to accomodate the needs of their growing fleet of CNG vehicles.
This project was successfully completed and no subsequent operational issues have been encountered. The public access portion of the station did encounter an initial issue regarding the design of the lighted canopy. Working within an area that includes an existing fuel island, street, and adjacent building, it was challenging to develop a canopy design that satisfied all necessary building, planning, and fire permit code requirements while still providing acceptable lighting and security. Following several attempts, a design was adopted that resulted in a quality canopy that meets all requirements and provides all desired security and lighting attributes.
All station upgrades have been fully implemented. The station is currently operational and publicly accessible.
