As an element of their 2004-'05 Work Program, the MSRC funded the upgrade and expansion of existing alternative fuel refueling stations. This was performed to ensure that stations constructed over the past several years remained operable and where able to support the growing number of CNG vehicles operated within the South Coast AQMD jurisdiction. The Whittier Union High School District participated in this program by upgrading the existing public access element of their CNG station. This District-operated station serves the refueling needs of the fleet of CNG school buses operated by the Pupil Transportation Cooperative, a joint powers agency consisting of six Greater Whittier Area school districts. In addition to school buses, the station serves as a convenient refueling location for both private and commerical CNG vehicles in the Whittier community.
