Project Background

CR&R, Inc. purchased ten (10) refuse collection vehicles equipped with a dedicated liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel system. The vehicles are front and side-loader refuse collection vehicles, and equipped with the Cummins Westport 8.3 C Plus dedicated natural gas engine. The vehicles are deployed on routes in the cities of San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente. In addition to the vehicle purchase, CR&R also installed a LNG refueling station at their San Juan Capistrano Fleet Maintenance facility located at 31641 Ortega Highway. The facility has a capacity of 16,000 gallons of LNG, and is used to refuel CR&R's current fleet of 19 LNG refuse collection vehicles. Up to 50 LNG vehicles will be utilizing this facility by 2006. In addition, CR&R performed facility modifications at their maintenance facility to allow for indoor servicing of the LNG trucks. Finally, CR&R mechanics received specialized training on servicing LNG fuel vehicles.
