The City of Los Angeles Harbor Department/Port of Los Angeles purchased two (2)CNG trucks; a pothole Patcher truck and an Aerial Platform truck. These vehicles replaced similarly-equipped diesel-fueled trucks that were approximately 18 years old. The aerial platform and pavement patcher trucks have met performance expectations. The equipment operators have been satisfied with the equipement performance, reliability, and ease of operation. The equipment also meets all necessary power requirements. The equipment operators prefer to utilize the CNG trucks as they produce less irritable fumes, especially in confined spaces. The only performance issues encountered with the vehicles involve the initial start-up; the vehicles require approximately one minute of warm-up time to allow the engine to idle smoothly.

The Port of Los Angeles is the primary beneficiary from this project; however, all areas of the South Coast AQMD benefit from reductions in ozone forming oxides of nitrogen.
The two CNG trucks result in the following emissions reductions: Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx): 1,376 pounds of NOx reduced annually.
The Final Report includes a detailed discussion of the project, including quantification of emission reductions and vehicle specification sheets.
