Contractor established a 2.1 kW photovoltaic charging station for electric vehicles in the parking lot adjacent to the City Hall building for the City of Santa Monica. The facility was used to charge four electric vehicles owned by the City of Santa Monica, and an Ecostar loaned to the City of Santa Monica by Southern California Edison (SCE). The public was allowed to charge their vehicles at the station.

The station was constructed in Santa Monica. The city-owned cars operated in the areas around the City Hall reducing emission in the greater Santa Monica area. The privately owned electric vehicles which refueled at the station were not monitored for distances traveled. It may be assumed these vehicles operated both inside and outside the limits of Santa Monica. The wider the areas of travel, the wider the benefits of clean emission would be.
The reductions are computed on an annual basis. Reductions are: Carbon Dioxide (CO2), 3,140 kg; Carbon Monoxide (CO), 40.8 kg; Nitrous Oxides (NOx), 4.8 kg; Sulphur Dioxide (SO2), 6.3 kg, and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), 3.0 kg.
