The Orange County Transportation Authority recently completed six traffic signal synchronization projects along major corridors in the county to improve traffic flow and reduce vehicle emissions. Improvements over 38 miles of roadways enabled the agency to synchronize the signal timing at each intersection so that drivers on the connected streets can travel through multiple intersections with a succession of green lights, thereby reducing vehicle idling time
Last month, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) approved an initial plan by Volkswagen to invest $200 million dollars in California to help build the basic ZEV charging network around the State. Funds also will be invested to launch a multilingual public outreach and education campaign, and begin ZEV access projects, including the first “Green City” project that will be implemented in Sacramento. This is a portion of an overall $800 million settlement to invest in California’s ZEV infrastructure over the next decade and resulted from a multi-part settlement agreement from VW’s use of “defeat device” software to cheat on
For more than 25 years, the MSRC has allocated funding to projects that enhance clean transportation initiatives throughout the South Coast Region. Now, there is a new source of funding available statewide that can help build on these types of MSRC-funded projects which help reduce Californian’s reliance on cars - SB 1, the Road and Repair Accountability Act of 2017
