Contractor established a distance learning network utilizing a compressed video teleconferencing system linking the university, its branch campus in Palm Desert, Copper Mountain College in Joshua Tree, and the Palo Verde School District. This linkage will provide educational programming as well as reduce vehicle emissions as travel between the campuses will be reduced.

In this particular project, the various campuses of Cal State San Bernardino were the recipients of the videoconferencing and telecommunications. The large area of San Bernardino County these various locations service also benefitted from the reduction of vehicular traffic between sites.
Annual emission reductions calculated using MSRC approved methodology are: Reactive Organic Gases, 532 pounds per year; Oxides of Nitrogen, 602 pounds per year; Carbon Monoxide, 625 pounds per year; and Particulate Matter, 1,998 pounds per year. It is estimated 24,526 staff/faculty miles were eliminated and 356,318 student miles were not driven. Contractor believes that as the system becomes fully operational, the miles not driven will exceed the estimation.
