The vanpools will originate from Whittier, California. The trucks will be used at the Puente Hills Landfill and at the South Gate Transfer Station to transport refuse and disposal to the Landfill. The refuse transfer truck will operate approximately 250 miles per day. The neighborhoods along the route from Puente Hills Landfill and the South Gate Transfer Station will also benefit from the clean air vehicles. The benefits obtained from the vanpools will be determined by the ridership, but a conservative estimate would be most of the area within a 50 mile radius of Whittier, will appreciate the emission-reductions.
The vanpool emission reductions are estimated to be reduced by: NOx, 65 lbs per year; CO,208 lbs per year; NMHC, 40 lbs per year; PM, 2.40 lbs per year; and SOx, 34 lbs per year. The 1991 water trucks used to demonstrate MARK I and MARK III emissions are: NOx, 1,489 lbs per year; CO, 3,722 lbs per year; NMHC, 355 lbs per year; PM, 74 lbs per year; and SOx, 80 lbs per year.
