Project Background

Contractor converted 50 United Parcel Service (UPS) delivery trucks from diesel power to natural gas utilizing advanced lean burn technology applied to a standard General Motors (GM) spark ignition engine. The repower/conversion reduced mobile source emissions and enabled UPS to take advantage of cheaper fuel.

The range of the 50 UPS trucks making daily deliveries can easily cover the entire South Coast Air Quality Management District.

Project Results Description

The emissions reductions for the 50 vehicles, operating 280 days per year, are Nitrous Oxide (NOx) 11.05 tons per year; Carbon Monoxide (CO), 8.25 tons per year; Reactive Hydrocarbons, 1.25 tons per year; and Particulates, 1.0 tons per year.
