Project Background

The City of Los Angeles - Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) purchased three (3) natural gas heavy-duty vehicles. The vehicles include: Two (2) Peterbilt 10-wheel liquefied natural gas (LNG) dump trucks, equipped with the Caterpillar C-12 dual-fuel engine; One (1) Tymco street sweeper, equipped with the Cummins B5.9 compressed natural gas engine; The LNG dump trucks are used by LAWA's paving crew section to carry loads of debris and hot asphalt. The street sweeper is used to clean and maintain roadways and taxiways on and around the airport.

Project Implementation

The reduction in ozone precusor emissions, including NOx, benefits all areas within the South Coast AQMD.

Project Results Description

Annual emission reductions attributable to this project are as follows: Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx): 571 pounds reduced annually.

Project Status Description

The final report includes a montly summary of vehicle mileage, fuel usage, and mainenance costs for each of the three vehicles funded in part by the MSRC. The final report also includes a comparative annual emissions reductions summary.
