The Los Angeles County Sanitation District successfully repowered nine (9) Caterpillar off-road crawler tractors: two D8L, five D9N, and two D10N vehicles. The vehicles were equipped with unregulated diesel engines; the new engines are CARB certified heavy-duty diesel engines. These vehicles operated ten hours per day, six days per week at two landfills managed by L.A. County Sanitation. The vehicles were re-powered during their previously scheduled rebuild cycle, resulting in a very cost-effective project. The Caterpillar D8L and D9N tractors are equipped with the new CARB certified Caterpillar D9R lower-emissions diesel engines. The D10N tractors are equipped with the new CARB certified Caterpillar D9R lower-emissions diesel engines. The D10N tractors are equipped with the D10R lower emission diesel engines. Both the D9R and D10R engines are certified to the CARB emissions standard of 6.9 g/bhp-hr NOx. This is a significate reduction from the baseline emission of 11.0g/bhp-hr NOx.
