Project Background

The City of Los Angeles purchased three (3) compressed natural gas street sweepers. The vehicles are used in the Los Angeles Harbor area, and were purchased in lieu of diesel vehicles. The sweepers purchased by the City are Elgin Eagle vehicles, and are equipped with the Cummins B5.9 195-horsepower dedicated CNG engine. The engines are certifed at the California Air Resources Board Optional NOx standard of 2.5 g/bhp-hr; this is compared to the typical diesel emission level of 4.4 g/bhp-hr. The vehicles have an anticipated life of seven (7) years.
