The Ebensteiner Company re-powered four (4) Caterpillar 631D waterpull tractors with new, CARB-certified CAT 3408 off-road diesel engines. Each vehicle operates 100% of its time within the South Coast AQMD and utilizes approximately 20,000 gallons of diesel fuel per year.
MSRC Discretionary Funds were used to offset a portion of the cost of purchasing and installing the new diesel engine in each of the four vehicles.
All areas of the South Coast AQMD benefit from a reduction in ozone precursor emissions.
The re-powering of off-road construction equipment with new, CARB certified engines has wide applicability throughout the South Coast region.
Estimated emission reductions attributable to this project include:
Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx): 2.2 tons per year per vehicle
The Final Report includes an Abstract, Summary and Conclusions, Recommendations, a technical discussion of the actual vehicle re-powering, and Emission Benefit and Cost Effectiveness calculations.
