The Rio Hondo College applied for an MSRC grant as a means of providing a matching grant to a federal appropriations award that required a 17% match. These funds would be used to purchase a CNG bus shuttle with a wheelchair lift to provide service to our campus.

The purpose of this project is to purchase a CNG bus to provide clean, efficient, improved shuttle service for students and visitors on campus. The new CNG will carry passengers to and from the stops to all major points within the campus.
The College is currently exploring the possibility of purchasing another CNG bus shuttle but is determining what other shuttle can be retired and what funds are available for this potential purchase.
The new CNG bus has provided excellent, clean service from Monday through Friday 51 weeks out of the year. The service is free to anyone who wishes to use it. The average wait time for a user is five minutes. The service is a circular route that completes its route in about 30 minutes. The CNG bus transports 25 seated passengers and two wheelchair passengers for a total of 27 passengers. Rio Hondo College transports about 12,000 passengers per year.
