American Reclamation selected the Autocar solid waste collection vehicle for their fleet addition. The vehicle was outfitted with the Cummins ISL G natural gas engine, certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) at a 0.13 g/bhp-hr oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions level. This is currently the lowest NOx emitting heavy-duty engine commercially available. The vehicle was placed into service on December 14, 2011.
The objective of this project was to purchase and deploy a low-emission, natural gas-fueled solid waste collection vehicle in solid wast collection revenue service. This project represents American Reclamation's first purchase of an alternative fuel heavy-duty vehicle.
This project will yield quantifiable reductions in both NOx and diesel particulate matter emissions. The annual and lifetime emission reductions are quantified below:
According to American Reclamation, the natural gas solid waste collection truck was successfully deployed with no significant operational barriers encountered.
