The City of Hemet and the Riverside Transit Agency (RTA) entered into an agreement to construct a joint-use compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station to be located at RTAs Hemet facility at 700 Scaramella Circle. Due to the close proximity of the City of Hemet Corporate Yard to the RTA facility the City and RTA saw a substantial public benefit in constructing a joint CNG fueling station in order to reduce infrastructure and operational costs for both agencies.

RTA prepared the design and project specifications with input from staff at the City of Hemet Public Works Department. RTA awarded the contract to Allsup, Inc. of Upland California. Construction began in March 2002.
The objective of this project was to construct a compressed natural gas CNG fueling station for use by RTA and the City of Hemet. The station will be a 1300 standard cubic feet per minute (SCFM) CNG refueling facility with a fast fill capability for up to 200 CNG vehicles.
station was complete in September 2002. The CNG station was designed for unattended operation and produces CNG from a site meter supplied by the local natural gas utility at a pressure of 250 psig. The facility is equipped with two dispensers. Initially, the station will fuel 20 RTA CNG transit buses. In 2003, the Hemet Refuse Department will begin using the station to refuel its CNG refuse collection vehicles. The station will be available for use by other agencies in the area.
